Welcome to UNDP Lesotho |
|
UNDP is
the UN's global development network, advocating for change and
connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help
people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries,
working with them on their own solutions to global and national
development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on
the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners. |
|
UNDP Lesotho Vision |
|
UNDP Lesotho is a
committed and professional team that upholds the values of the UN
and provides efficient and accountable services. We work through
coordinated partnerships to support Lesotho’s development priorities
and the achievement of the MDGs. |

UNDP Lesotho Focus
Areas |
|
UNDP Lesotho’s collaboration and support to the Government and
people of Lesotho is governed by the Country Programme
2008-2012, which is based on the priority needs of the country. UNDP
is committed to build on and share experiences with our wide range
of partners, to maximise the impact of poverty reduction initiatives
of the Government of Lesotho in addressing these challenges.
The
following are the four focus areas for UNDP Lesotho: |
 |
Democratic Governance
UNDP's Democratic Governance programme is focused on supporting
the promotion of transparent, accountable and effective
governance at all levels, with specific emphasis on capacity
strengthening of governance institutions. |
 |
Energy and
Environment
UNDP's Environment and Energy programme focuses on strengthening the
capacity of the Government of Lesotho to manage environment change and
adopt an integrated approach to the sustainable management of natural
resources. |
 |
HIV & AIDS
Under the Joint UN
Programme of Support, UNDP Lesotho helps develop capacity for
multi-sector responses and the promotion of an enabling human
rights environment to reverse the course of the HIV & AIDS
epidemic. |
 |
Poverty and Food Security
UNDP's programme aims to strengthen national statistical
capacities for monitoring poverty and progress towards the
achievement of the MDGs. Furthermore, UNDP promotes economic
empowerment of the poor through its youth employment and trade
programmes.

Delivering
as One (DaO)
Since the Delivering
as One was initiated in 2007, more than the initial eight pilot
countries and UN country teams around the world have embarked
on the effort to deliver as one.
In Lesotho, the
Government, the UN Family, and the donor community, recognize that
the challenges the country faces and the support the UN can offer
will lead to better results if all parts of the UN work more closely
together. This will ultimately also increase the Government's
ability to deliver services to the people of Lesotho. In 2008,
the UN Country Team agreed to become a "self-starter" and start
working together on the Fine Ones. A Delivering as One Concept
Note was Written and finalized in May 2009. The Concept Note
forms the first formal guiding document and outlines the challenges,
opportunities, scope and a way forward on the initiative in Lesotho.
In December 2009, the country team made an Executive Summary of the
Delivering as One on its progress so far and plans for the future.
