VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Project: 

Capacity Building and Knowledge Management for Sustainable Land Management (SLM) in Lesotho

Project Duration: Four (4) years

1 year with possibility of extension for up to 4 years

Reporting to:

SLM Project Manager (through Finance and Administration Officer) Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation

Duty station:

Maseru, Lesotho

1. Background:
 

The Driver will be based at the Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation, which is the national executing agency for this project. She/he is responsible for providing safe and reliable driving services to project staff, consultants, experts and the UNDP and Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation staff on official project business. The driver should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

2. Principal Responsibilities

  • Ensures the provision of secure and reliable driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorised personnel. The Driver is also responsible for the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and processing visa and customs formalities when required.

  • Ensures cost-savings through the proper use of the vehicle, maintenance of daily vehicle logs, providing input to the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, tyre checks, brake checks, car washing etc.

  • Ensures availability of all of the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, maps, first aid kit and the necessary spare parts.

  • Ensures that all immediate actions stipulated by national rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident. 

3. Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary education and a valid driver’s license.

  • 2 years work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

  • Fluency in English and Sesotho.

  • Candidate should demonstrate excellent knowledge of security issues and protocol and remain calm, in control and good humoured even under pressure.

  • Candidate should approach work with positivity and a constructive attitude and respond well to feedback and differing points of view.
