UNV Lesotho is one of 140 United Nations Volunteers (UNV) country offices worldwide, through which the UN and its partners advocate for volunteerism, integrate it into their planning and mobilize volunteers so that local, national and international development goals are met. To assist us in reaching these goals in Lesotho, we are pleased to invite applications from candidates who wish to volunteer with UNV for the following position:

Start date:                             Immediately

Expected Duration of Assignment:          12 Months

Lesotho College of Education, Distance Teacher Education Programme (LCE-DTEP) TUTOR

Lesotho College of Education, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, delivers the Distance Teacher Education Programme (DTEP). DTEP is specifically designed as an in-service training programme for experienced but unqualified and under-qualified primary school teachers teaching in Lesotho primary schools. Trainees study while they are teaching and rely mainly on study modules and weekend workshops in organized clusters within their regions. Site tutors visit trainee teachers during their teaching time, providing feedback and support on study materials and teaching.

Location:                      Leribe district and LCE campus, Maseru

Contract duration:     12 months

Functions and responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Regional Coordinator, the Tutor is responsible for teaching and supervising DTEP students; holding workshops; orienting Part-Time Site Tutors and keeping up-to-date information about activities and students’ profiles. Required Skills and Experience:  Bachelor’s in Education degree, with either Mathematics or English as one of the Majors; at least five years teaching experience with distance learners at tertiary level; a strong team spirit; attention to detail. Volunteer experience is welcome.
