Background:
In 2009, the UN Country Team in Lesotho embarked on Delivering as
One (DaO) initiative as a “Self Starter” which is part of wider
efforts to reform the United Nations. The change process will
position the UN system to better support the Government and people
of Lesotho in their efforts to overcome pressing development
challenges such as HIV/AIDS, widespread poverty and the devastating
effects of climate change on agriculture and livelihoods. The UN
reform agenda also aims to promote greater national ownership and
leadership of the UN programme.
Under the reform efforts, the Resident Coordinator’s Office provides
the leadership and facilitation of the UN’s development assistance.
The UN Coordination Specialist will,
under the guidance and direct supervision of the UN Resident
Coordinator, strengthen the capacity of the UN Country Team.
The UN Coordination Specialist will:

support UN Reform
initiatives, especially the “Delivering as One” initiative, aimed at
enhancing system-wide coherence, aid effectiveness and efficiency,
· manage the day-to-day
work related of the Resident Coordinator’s Office,
· analyze political,
social and economic trends and provides inputs to preparation of
country programming products,
·
support the national
strategies setting;
· provide assistance to
development and implementation of the collaborative and joint
programmes,
· monitor progress towards
the Millennium Development Goals and Global Conferences,
· provide support to
agencies without field representation to access national systems and
for national counterparts to access the expertise of agencies
without field representation.
The UN Coordination Specialist supervises and leads the UN
Coordination Unit support staff. He or she works in close
collaboration with UNCT members, programme and operations teams of
the Agencies, UNDOCO staff and Government officials, technical
advisors and experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil
society ensuring successful implementation of UNCT activities.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
-
Master’s Degree or equivalent in Economics, Social Sciences,
-
International Relations, Political Sciences or related field.
Experience:
-
5 years of relevant experience at the national or international
level in providing management advisory services, experience in
design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
Knowledge about the UN and RC systems would be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English and Sesotho.
