Are you eligible to
apply for Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP)
funding?
If your answer to the following questions is yes, then your
organization is eligible to apply for funding for Community
Environmental Projects. However, if your answer to anyone of the
questions is no, then you are NOT eligible to apply:
* * Is
your organization a legally registered:
a) non-governmental organization (NGO),
b) community-based organization (CBO),
c) recognized grassroots organization?
* Does
the proposed intervention correspond to one of the GEF operational
programmes?
Which kinds of activities are eligible for GEF-SGP funding?
A project proposed for funding must meet the country-specific
eligibility criteria laid out in the GEF-SGP Country Programme
Strategy. All projects must address one or more of the following
GEF-SGP areas of focus:
* Biodiversity
* Climate
Change
* International
Waters
* Land
Degradation
* Persistent
Organic Pollutants
However, Biodiversity will receive less preference as the majority
of projects funded by the SGP to date, are on biodiversity
conservation
How can potential grantees apply for an SGP grant?
Following a formal call for project concepts, applicants shall
prepare project concept papers using the standard format obtainable
from the GEF-SGP Office. The GEF is a co-financier operating on a
50:50 partnership arrangement in financing of projects. The GEF-SGP
provides small grants, up to USD 50 000.00, directly to NGOs, CBOs
and other recognized community entities for environmental projects.
The closing date for submission of Concept Papers is July 27,
2009, 17:00hours. All submissions should be addressed to the
National Coordinator GEF Small Grants Programme.
Please note that project sites for selected concepts
will be visited as part of the project approval process and that the
decision of the National Steering Committee is final.

Description
a)
Brief description of the environmental problem and its root causes
(approximately 200 words)
b)
Proposed interventions and implementation modalities. A brief
account of the long-term sustainability of project impact should be
included (approximately 300 words).
c)
Brief description of the geographic location of the project and the
target community (approximately 100 words).
d)
Brief description of project participants/partners/stakeholders.
This shall include the major partners/participants actively involved
in the project cycle - right from planning to implementation to
monitoring and evaluation (approximately 100 words).
e)
Organization's capacity and/or experience in dealing with similar
initiatives (150 words).
f)
The Monitoring and Evaluation Plan with an evidence of the
participation of the target community in the process (approximately
150 words).
g)
Estimated Budget including NGO's share in cash or kind, and
indicating duration of project.
Note:
The length of concept notes must not exceed two pages in
12-font size.
