09 August, 2010
Perhaps
without even being aware of
Kiera
Zetkin, the woman who organized the first International Women's
Day on March 19, 1911, the women’s movement of the 1960s and the
female historians who in March 1978 took on the task of integrating
the accomplishments of women into history, colleagues of UNDP
Lesotho inspired by Neighbouring Republic of South Africa who every
August celebrate the achievement of women, took up the challenge
to celebrate “Women’s month” on the 9th August 2010, by
treating female colleagues in UNDP to tea, cakes, poems and
statements to celebrate the achievement of women not only in Lesotho
and Africa but the world over!
Here below is the
celebration reflected in the statements, Poem and Photographs.

"A mother’s unrelenting love, a sister’s care, a
partner’s touch of love, a focused professional, a committed family
member able to juggle the daily chores of life, a daughter’s love
and genuine friendship…..is what we will like to celebrate on this
month for women!”

Almost all of the UNDP Women posing for a photograph before
enjoying the refreshments |
A moment to pause and celebrate the achievement
of women around us and the contributions they have made to our lives
and that of so many others.
“A house is not a
home without a mother’s unrelenting love and presence, commitment to
family but most importantly the ability to hold the fort and stay
calm even when the going gets tough”. Happy women’s month
Mother, sister, wife, daughter are a part of our
life
Love, compassion, sacrifice, they have been with us through strife.
Women, rise, we are with you.
There is light at the end and a morning of dew.
We will all stand and salute the girl child
for the hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world
Dr Jawahar Surisetti – from “Women, March Ahead”
for International Women’s day.

With these reflections, we wish every woman,
every daughter, every partner and every female colleague a happy
women’s month”, so the Gentlemen of UNDP concluded. |
