UNDP
and the UN Family support the Development of a National Development
Plan in Lesotho
11 November, 2010
As the Gov ernment
of Lesotho is embarking on developing the five-year National
Development Plan (NDP) for 2012/13-2016/17, UNDP and the UN Family
are supporting this important process as it will provide needed
overall guidance and coordination for the Government and the
development partners and contribute to accelerating achievement of
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and better human development
in the country.
The previous
national framework document was the Poverty Reduction Strategy
2004/05-2006/07, which was further extended to 2008.
In 2010 UNDP is
providing support to setting up the structures for developing the
NDP, coordination of the inputs, making a comprehensive background
analysis on selected sectors and ensuring needed statistical inputs.
The plan is
expected to be in place for the fiscal year 2012/13. This timing is
also very opportune for the UN system, as the current United Nations
Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) cycle ends in 2012. This
provides an opportunity to align the support to the Government of
Lesotho according to the NDP.
