UNV volunteer specialist
We are lucky enough to have with us again in 2008, Mr Dyfan Jones,
UNV volunteer specialist and graduate in History and Politics from
the University of Wales, Swansea. Dyfan has been active in Lesotho
for many years, first through his association with the NGO, Lesotho
Wales Link and most recently, through UNDP Lesotho, in his role as
advisor to the Lesotho parliamentary committees. Through UNDP, Dyfan
is based in the Senate and operates between both houses of
parliament, where his experience and knowledge of parliamentary
systems can be called on as required. About his work, Dyfan says It
is a great honour and privilege to be working with Honourable
Members of Parliament in Lesotho. The Lesotho Parliament has
recently gone through major changes and to be able to have assisted
in a small way with these developments has been a great experience
for me as a professional. On living in Lesotho, he adds I have
really enjoyed my time living in Lesotho. I have always been
welcomed here and really feel that Lesotho is my home away home.
Dyfan is one of six international UNV
volunteers currently serving in Lesotho, together with our UNV
Intern and we will tell you more about them over the coming weeks.
Lesotho Volunteer Forum
In January, all of the organisations involved in celebrating our
2007 Lesotho International Volunteer Day formed the Lesotho
Volunteer Forum, with the shared aim of promoting volunteerism and
volunteer placements across all sectors in Lesotho: community and
civil society; government; business; church; media and education. We
meet every month, through UNV Lesotho and welcome enquiries from any
group or organization that would like to join us.
